When encoding cards, instead of an standard CR-80 card, you choose for the MIFARE DESfire EV1 2K card. The NXP MIFARE DESFire cards have larger storage and are available in four variants: one with Triple-DES only and 4 KB of storage, and three with AES (2, 4 or 8 KB).

By encoding your card, you can store more information about the person you are trying to identify. With an encoded card you can have access control, time registration and do payments.
